Laury Beesley understands the galvanizing forces of love and loss, and has relied on both to create her non-profit organization, Widows GPS, Inc.

Raised on Long Island, NY’s beautiful North Shore, she enjoyed family vacations in New Hampshire and many outdoor activities that included snow skiing, waterskiing and boating with her family, including her devoted father, who passed away when she was just 16.

Her dad’s death taught her to become an emotionally and financially independent teen, attending New Hampshire College – to which she reapplied following an initial rejection – and graduated Cum Laude with a challenging Management Information Systems (MIS) degree. She landed her first job with a manufacturing company and was promoted to Data Processing Manager by age 24.

She met and married the man of her dreams, Jeff Beesley, who also had been raised on Long Island. The couple met and settled in New England. She counts their relationship as her favorite life-changing event.

When the family left New Hampshire for her husband’s job, Laury stepped away from her computer work to concentrate on raising her children. She became an active volunteer with her church and the public schools, as well as with ballet, music and other activities her children were involved in.

Having already followed Jeff’s career from New Hampshire to Minnesota, the family moved once again – to Roswell, Georgia – where Laury remained a tireless volunteer whose business knowledge and gift for organization and management was highly sought.

In 2005, the rug was pulled out from under the family when Jeff was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He died at the young age of 50, following a 2 1/2-year battle with the disease, including a 9-month remission. Laury was just 46 at the time of his death, having remained a devoted wife, mother and volunteer throughout Jeff’s illness (including an 8-month-long bone-marrow transplant process).

Laury is proud of the accomplishments of her two grown children.  Kristin currently teaches Music Education at Lincoln School in Illinois. Ryan works as a meteorologist at WATE News 6.

Since her husband’s death, Laury has remained a tireless volunteer, and has broadened her professional network through a variety of formal and informal business networking organizations.
Through her experiences with individuals, she recognized the need for a guidance and support system that would help widows navigate the twists and turns of their altered lives. Backed by her strong desire to serve others, Laury recognized her ability to help widows reclaim their lives and face a bright future with Guidance, Power and Support of those who have walked a similar path.

The seeds of Widows GPS were sown the day she lost her beloved husband. Her belief that God never closes a door without opening a window allowed her to realize that her own lessons would be beneficial to others through this empowering organization.
